All of which rang true to the characters and had me routing for them. Especially the way it switched between political manoeuvring, site seeing and battles. I loved the way the narrative transitioned smoothly from one situation to another. Anyone who reads my reviews will know that I don’t give out such high ratings lightly. Although I did have to download it onto my phone so that I could read in spare moments on the go. It doesn’t get five stars because I was still in bed at a normal time. For such a complex and wide spread world that is quite an achievement!Īs the speed picks up this book is really difficult to put down. An understanding of the history of the worlds and the characters is established so well that I didn’t once have to go back and check something. It’s not a short read so some parts, mostly the beginning, do take a while. Set in the belt, a series of worlds bound together by treaties and under attack by a truly terrifying enemy.Īt the start of the book I wasn’t really sure where it was going, but the writing kept me reading anyway. This can't be put on the medieval type society the story depicts because women are in position of power. The rare encounters with women are brief, and in those 5 glimpses of female characters: one is burnt and not relevant anymore, one is clearly the future love interest, and another one was a golddigger. I know I should have guessed from the title (he is a seedbearing prince.) that it was a male for males perspective but then he cares only for his father's approval, and respects only his best friend's father, a rough defender (high ranked soldier) and a cowardish preceptor? His adventures take him only from one man to another? The seedbaring prince is a book full with testosterone, if I may say so, and I found myself having difficulties to appreciate Dayn's story because of that aspect. Unfortunately, it was not the story for me. The pace is slow but the writting is good, enabling us to grasp the beauty and complexity of the worlds where the plot takes us. This book is part of a series and does a good job in setting the landscape for something bigger, incredible and action packed (for the next book). He is then needed to fight the voidwalkers: scary,dead creatures trying to destroy the worlds. The seedbaring prince tells the story of Dayn, a black young farmer who becomes a seedbaring prince thanks to his discovery.
